MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) said Tuesday it will pay hospital claims amounting to P25.45 billion in six months.
Philhealth President and CEO Dante Gierran disclosed this during the hearing of the House committee on health after Marikina City Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo asked the agency for a commitment regarding the settlement of claims that it owes to hospitals.
“Itong i-process po namin na (We are processing this) P25.45 billion, we have to [pay] this in 6 months time,” he said.
According to Gierran, the delay in the payments of hospital claims during the pandemic was due to a lack of manpower and information technology issues.
Nonetheless, he said the claims will be settled through the Debit-Credit Payment Method (DCPM) which provides for the fast release of funds to qualified hospitals nationwide while their reimbursement claims are still under process.
Under the method, only 60 percent will initially be paid to hospitals while 40 percent would be paid upon completion of processing requirements.
