147 MRT-3 employees test positive for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 147 employees of the MRT-3 have tested positive for COVID-19, the train system’s director for operations Michael Capati said Tuesday.

He said the number was as of Jan. 10, and the employees were tested using RT-PCR swab tests.

“Lahat diyan ay naka-isolate at home quarantined na lahat,” he said in a Laging Handa public briefing.

(All of them are currently in isolation and under home quarantine.)

Capati assured that MRT-3 services still continue at 70% capacity. He, however, pointed out a drop in ridership amid the COVID-19 surge in the metropolis.

From over 200,000 passengers a day, it is now down to around 140,000. This might be due to the increased number of COVID-19 patients in Metro Manila and some opting not to go out of their homes for non-essential trips.

Earlier, 99 employees were found positive in COVID-19 antigen tests and were set to undergo confirmatory RT PCR tests.
