Airlines cancel more flights amid infection surge
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine carriers canceled more flights on Monday after employees fell ill amid the latest COVID-19 surge. Philippine Airlines (PAL) was the latest to announce dozens of flight cancellations until Jan. 16.
The flag carrier said “an increasing number of our front-line and support personnel are unable to report for work due to precautionary quarantine or self-isolation requirements.”
PAL canceled Manila flights to domestic destinations, including Cebu, Caticlan and Cagayan de Oro. It also canceled Manila to Tokyo flights from Jan. 10 to Jan. 14. Cebu Pacific cited similar reasons when it announced the cancellation of several domestic flights.
