Public reminded on safe, proper intake of paracetamol

MANILA, Philippines — Local pharmaceutical company Unilab reminded the public Thursday to use paracetamol properly and within the recommended dose to ensure safety and efficacy. 

Unilab issued the reminder amid the reported demand surge for paracetamol which is used to relieve pain and reduce fever. 

“With the sudden surge of sickness today, people turn to paracetamol—a commonly used over-the-counter medication for fever, headache, and pain. But it’s important to remember its proper usage and dose to ensure safety and efficacy,” Unilab said in an advisory. 

According to Unilab, the usual recommended dose for adults is one to two 500 milligram tablets every four to six hours.

The pharmaceutical firm said users should not exceed a maximum of eight tablets or 4,000 milligrams of paracetamol per day. 

Unilab also advised the public not to use paracetamol with other products also containing paracetamols such as cough and cold preparations, fever ruducers, and pain relievers.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Health assured the public that there is no shortage of paracetamol and other drugs for flu-like symptoms amid the reported consumer rush.
