MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has rejected another petition seeking to challenge the presidential bid of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Tuesday that, “Tiburcio Marcos’ [petition] has already been denied.”

“I think it was dismissed before New Year,” he added during an online briefing.

A copy of this poll body’s decision is yet to be made public as of this writing.

FEATURED STORIES

INQUIRER.net has reached out to the Marcos camp for comment but is yet to receive a response also as of this writing.

To recall, Tiburcio Marcos filed the petition claiming that the real Marcos Jr. already died and the person who filed his candidacy to run for president in the May 2022 election is allegedly an impostor.

A decades-old rumor alleges that Marcos Jr. was stabbed and died during a scuffle while studying abroad. The then Marcos family supposedly looked for his look-alike to replace him. Marcos Jr. denied it in his vlog last May.

Another petition seeking to cancel Marcos Jr.’s candidacy for president is still pending before the Comelec as well as four other disqualification cases.

Apart from this petition filed by Tiburcio Marcos, the Comelec also denied on December 16, 2021, a petition to declare Marcos Jr. a nuisance candidate.
