CENTCOM BACKS HISTORICAL MAPPING
THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) supports the planned historical mapping in Cebu City to identify areas used as American and Japanese camps during the World War II.
Lt. Col. Christopher Tampus, Central Command (Centcom) spokesman, said historical mapping is one way to check areas where World War II bombs were possibly buried.
Tampus also assured support for Cebu City Police Office Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe’s request to the city council to pass an ordinance for proper disposal of recovered vintage bombs to prevent putting the public in danger.
Last month, 26 vintage bombs were found at the South Reclamation Project (SRP) and were detonated in Toledo City.
Last Saturday, at least five vintage bombs were found inside the house of one Lading Naces in Sitio Riverside, barangay Hipodromo.
Naces had his house renovated after it was damaged by fire a few months ago.
Workers were digging for the foundation of the house when they discovered the bombs.
Naces said they immediately coordinated with the barangay officials who called the police.
The bombs were turned over to Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) office for proper disposal.
Work on Naces’ house was also temporarily suspended until proper inspection has been done.
According to Tampus, the Centcom will send personnel from Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) to barangay Hipodromo to check the area./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
BURGLARS HIT VICE MAYOR’S HOUSE
UNIDENTIFIED thieves ransacked the house of the vie mayor in Bogo City, northern Cebu.
Bogo City Vice Mayor Santiago Sevilla said cash and valuables amounting to P73,300 were stolen from his house in barangay Cogon.
Sevilla said he discovered at 7:30 a.m that his Bolova watch kept in the dining area, P1,300 cash and a Nokia cell phone worth P12,000 kept in the living room were missing.
Police said the burglars gained entrance by detaching some of the jalousie blades of a window in the dining area./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
