Shearline to bring rain over eastern parts of Visayas, Mindanao – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A shearline or the tail end of a cold front east of Visayas and Mindanao is expected to bring isolated rains over the eastern portions of the two regions, the state weather bureau said in its Monday afternoon weather forecast.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the eastern parts of Luzon would also see rain but it would be due to the northeast monsoon, which is locally known as amihan.

Palawan would also have rain, Pagasa noted, especially its central and northern portions, due to thick cloud bands surrounding the islands. But for the rest of the country, fair weather may be anticipated even if light scattered rain showers due to localized thunderstorms remain possible.

The following scenarios, Pagasa said, are expected to continue through Tuesday, January 4: in Luzon, Tuguegarao and Legazpi, temperatures will be between 20 to 26 degrees Celsius and 23 to 29 degrees, respectively, slightly lower than other areas as rains brought about by the northeast monsoon continue to affect these areas.

On the other hand, Laoag’s temperature will be between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius; Metro Manila, 22 and 30 degrees Celsius; Puerto Princes, 25 and 30 degrees Celsius; and Baguio and Tagaytay, still cold at 12 to 23 degrees Celsius and 19 to 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

For Visayas and Mindanao, rains will still persist on the eastern side with Tacloban possibly registering temperatures of just 23 to 28 degrees Celsius; Cagayan de Oro, 24 to 30 degrees Celsius; and Davao, 24 to 31 degrees Celsius due to the shearline. Cebu will likewise be colder than usual at 24 to 29 degrees Celsius, while Zamboanga would have temperatures ranging from 23 to 32 degrees Celsius, and Iloilo possibly 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, Pagasa said.

Based on Pagasa’s Monday afternoon weather forecast, the country may not expect any tropical cyclone to enter its area of responsibility in the next three to five days. But a gale warning remains raised over most of the country’s seas — from Ilocos Norte to Cagayan Valley’s shorelines down to the entire eastern seaboard of the country, plus inland seas of Visayas.

The gale warning also covers waters north of Mindanao’s northern coastline and the seas surrounding Palawan and southern Mindoro.
