PH logs 4,084 new COVID-19 cases; positivity rate hits 20%

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday recorded 4,084 new COVID-19 cases, with the positivity rate hitting 20.7 percent.

The new infections drove the overall case count to 2,855,819. Of the fresh cases, all 4,057 were reported within the past 14 days.

Metro Manila is still the top region with most new cases in the past two weeks, followed by Calabarzon, and Central Luzon.

Sixteen more fatalities were listed, raising the death toll to 51,586. Eleven deaths happened in December 2021; three in October 2021; and one each in September and August 2021.

Meanwhile, the tally of recoveries reached 2,779,241 with 497 more patients recuperating from the coronavirus.

Active cases are now 24,992 — 19,252 are mild cases; 3,051 are moderate cases; 1,563 are severe cases; 795 are asymptomatic cases; and 331 are critical cases.

Of the 18,587 COVID-19 tests conducted on January 1, 20.7 percent yielded a positive result.

Two laboratories were not operational on the said date, while 21 others failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted that 18 duplicates and 178 cases found to be negative after final validation were removed from the overall case tally.

Seven cases, initially labeled as recoveries, were reclassified as fatalities after final validation.
