Jose Abad Santos General Hospital in Manila reopening Sunday, Jan. 2

MANILA, Philippines — The Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital (JJASGH) in Binondo, Manila will reopen this Sunday, January 2, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

“Dr. [Arnold] Pangan, City Health Officer of the City of Manila clarified to the Department of Health earlier this morning that the Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital in Binondo, Manila will open within the day,” the DOH told reporters in a Viber message.

“They just need time to move mild cases to a nearby isolation facility. The DOH lauds this quick response by the Manila CHO (City Health Office), which is consistent with our protocols,” the DOH added.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Saturday, the JJASGH management said the hospital will be temporarily closed due to the increased number of COVID-19 admissions.

The hospital management said the number of COVID-19 patients has exceeded the number of available beds. It added that the hospital staff needs to first send some patients home or transfer them to quarantine facilities.

Many hospital staff has also been infected with COVID-19, according to the management.
