New Year’s Eve road mishap in Zambales leaves 2 dead, 2 hurt
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — As residents in this town were getting ready to welcome the new year on Friday, December 31, two motorcycle riders died on the road along Sitio (sub-village) Loong in Barangay (village) Luna, police said on Saturday, January 1.
Police Lieutenant Mark Almero, chief of the San Antonio police, identified those killed as Steven Fariñas, 18, and Jomari Garcia, 19.
Initial investigation showed that Garcia, who was aboard his motorcycle going to San Marcelino town at around 11:30 p.m., overtook another motorcycle and collided head-on with the motorcycle being driven by Fariñas.
With the strong impact, both drivers as well as the passengers of Fariñas identified as Jonel Barantes, 22, and a 12-year-old boy were thrown off their vehicles into the road pavement.
They were all taken to the nearby San Marcelino District Hospital but Fariñas and Garcia died along the way.
