Task force wins 243 trafficking cases
MANILA, Philippines — Government prosecutors secured the conviction of individuals involved in 243 incidents of human trafficking over the past two years, the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (Iacat), headed by the Department of Justice, said on Wednesday.
Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said the number of convictions could be higher since they were still awaiting the reports of other state prosecutors.
Iacat said the government already won a total of 994 convictions in various courts in the country since the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 was enacted.
