MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila continued on Wednesday to see a rise in COVID-19 cases with 1,000 new ones projected to be registered on Dec. 30 — in contrast to the 1,500 to 2,000 new cases projected nationwide, according to a Twitter post made by Dr. Guido David, a fellow of independent pandemic monitoring group OCTA Research.
David said that the positivity rate in Metro Manila (also known as the National Capital Region) had risen at 8.4 percent, much higher than the 5 percent recorded on Tuesday. Its seven-day positivity rate also increased from 2.4 percent on Tuesday to 3.86 percent just a day after.

“This means the projection for the NCR is more than 1000 new cases on December 30,” said David. “Nationwide, there could be 1500 to 2000 new cases.”
This developed after the Department of Health (DOH) registered 889 new coronavirus cases, the highest registered daily tally in over a month.

Moreover, the nationwide positivity rate, according to the DOH, also jumped to 2.6 percent on Tuesday to 4.5 percent on Wednesday.
Following this, DOH said that it was still too early to ascertain if the rise was due to gatherings during the holidays or the entry of the Omicron variant.
