Pagasa: Wet, cloudy Wednesday expected nationwide

/ 07:37 AM December 29, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Expect a cloudy, rainy Wednesday in pars of the Visayas and Mindanao due to the shear line while rain showers are likewise expected in Luzon due to the surge of the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Sa kasalukuyan ay patuloy pa rin ang pag-iral ng pagbugso o surge ng northeast monsoon o amihan sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon. Dahil sa amihan na ito ay patuloy na umiiral ang ating shear line o ‘yung pagsasalubong ng amihan at easterlies,” Pagasa weather specialist Robb Gile said.

(Currently, the surge of the northeast monsoon continues to affect a large portion of Luzon. Due to the northeast monsoon, the shear line, or the convergence of winds from amihan and easterlies, is also in effect.)

“’Yung pagsasalubong na ito ay nagdudulot ng mga makakapal na kaulapan na may dalang malakas na pag-ulan, at nakakaapekto ito sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas at northeastern portion of Mindanao,” he added.

(This convergence of winds causes clouds that bring heavy rain. This will affect a large portion of the Visayas and the northeastern portion of Mindanao.)

Based on Pagasa’s forecast, Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line and the intertropical convergence zone, or where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge.

Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, Bicol region, and the rest of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region  will have cloudy skies with light rain due to the northeast monsoon.

The northeast monsoon will also trigger partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
