SUBIC BAY FREEPORT– About 8,000 kilos of food packs, hygiene kits and beddings were generated by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) from its donation drive to help the victims of Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) in Siargao Island.
In a statement on Monday (Dec. 27), SBMA Chair and Administrator Wilma Eisma said the food aid was mostly bottled water, rice and canned goods.
Eisma said the donations were brought to Manila on Monday for plane transport with the help of Undersecretary Benny Antiporda of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Antiporda was for a former SBMA director.
The SBMA began its donation drive last week, appealing to its stakeholders to help the typhoon victims.
It also sent an 11-man emergency response team from its fire department to assist in rehabilitation and restoration of power in Siargao Island. INQ
