Several Oriental Mindoro villages flooded due to continuous rain

CITY OF CALAPAN––Some villages in Oriental Mindoro were flooded after light to moderate rains caused rivers to overflow, according to a report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on Monday morning.

In Baco town, the flooded villages were Burbuli, Alag, Mangangan, Catwiran 1, Bangkatan, and Sta. Rosa 1.

Roads in Mangangan 2, Burbuli, Catwiran 1, Alag, and Bangkatan villages were not passable due to overflowing rivers.

Three families or 15 individuals also sought shelter in an evacuation center in Sta. Rosa.

In Naujan town, some sitios (sub-villages) in the villages of Masagana, Motoderazo, San Andres, Inarawan, Mahabang Parang, San Luis, and Tagumpay are flooded.

In Calapan, water rose and filled the road in Barangay Canubing and Patas.

There were evacuees in a private residence, but the barangay health workers had yet to submit their number.

The rough sea conditions prompted the cancelation of the 9:20 a.m. trip for fast craft OceanJet, but roll-on-roll-off trips continue.

According to the state weather bureau, the National Capital Region and 10 other areas, including Oriental Mindoro, would have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Monday due to the shear line or the tail-end of a cold front.
