MANILA, Philippines — The visit of the Black Nazarene to various parts of the country — or localized Traslacion — will begin on Monday, December 27, as part of the adjustments made by the church due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of the  Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene , more commonly known as the Quiapo Church, said the image of the Black Nazarene will first be brought to the Our Lady of the Angels Church in Quezon province.

“Magsisimula na bukas, ilalabas na ang Nazareno, pupunta na ito ng Atimonan (Starting tomorrow, the image of the Black Nazarene will be brought to Atimonan),” Badong said in an interview with Teleradyo.

“Gaya ng ginawa namin, i-encourage ‘yung mga deboto na sa kani-kanila munang mga simbahan mag-Novena dahil meron din namang mga Nazareno image so para doon muna sila pumunta dahil hindi namin kakayanin ‘yung normal na bilang ng tao na pumupunta dito kapag Traslacion,” he added.

(We encourage devotees to hold their Novena prayers in their respective churches because there are also Black Nazarene images there so that they no longer need to go to Quiapo Church because we will not be able to handle the usual number of people coming here during Traslacion.)

It was earlier announced that traditional Traslacion, where a procession of the Black Nazarene is held across parts of Manila, will be suspended for the second straight year to avoid overcrowding amid the pandemic.
