Rain seen to persist in Luzon, Mindanao

Two weather systems in the country will continue to bring rain to several parts of Luzon and Mindanao even after the holidays, according to the weather bureau.

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) in southern Mindanao is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Provinces forecast to experience that weather condition brought by the ITCZ include Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands and Davao Oriental.

Flashfloods or even landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rain in those areas, Pagasa added.

The rest of Mindanao, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms and may bring possible flash floods or landslides “during severe thunderstorms.”

The northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” is another weather system affecting the weather in most Luzon areas and even in Visayas, even after the holidays.

Cagayan Valley region, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rain due to the northeast monsoon.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and even the Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain, also due to the northeast monsoon, Pagasa said.
