Media outlet Rappler again reported on Thursday that it sustained another cyberattack, the second time this month.
ABS-CBN’s online news portal also went offline around 1:55 p.m., but it did not say whether the downtime was due to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.
A DDoS attack attempts to overwhelm a site by flooding the server with malicious traffic.
Rappler said it was “implementing mitigating measures.”
On Dec. 16, Rappler reported a similar attack shortly after it published a story about the passage of a Senate bill allowing 100-percent foreign ownership of public services.
Before long, the DDOS began to focus on Rappler’s homepage itself, the outlet said. —KRIXIA SUBINGSUBING
