Cop accidentally shoots cousin

A 30-YEAR-OLD man was injured after his cousin, a policeman, accidentally shot him in a scuffle with his friends in barangay Bulasa, Argao, southern Cebu, last Sunday night.

Charlito Naces was treated for a gunshot wound in the shoulder then  detained at the Argao police station.

Police investigation revealed that Charlito and his two friends, Arnold Landongan, 32, and Mark Manila, 24, played basketball after a drinking spree.

A fight ensued over a technical foul during the game past 8 p.m.

The incident was reported to his cousin PO2 Bobby Naces, who  arrived at the court at  8:25 p.m.

While pacifying the three men,  Charlito tried to grab the policeman’s  .45 service pistol.

This led to a  scuffle.

The pistol discharged,  hitting Charlito.

He and his two  friends are now detained at the Argao police station.

Police said that PO2 Naces would not file charges against the men and was open to  an amicable settlement.

Nevertheless, the three men will  be charged for drunken conduct in violation of a municipal ordinance. /CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
