MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon “Odette” (international name: Rai) is now moving towards west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea on Friday, the state weather bureau reported.
The center of Odette is now located over the coastal waters of San Vicente, Palawan or 85 kilometer north of Puerto Princesa City, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center, with gustiness of up to 205 kph, according to according to the latest weather bulletin of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
It is moving west northwestward at 30 kph.
Pagasa only hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals in Palawan.
The northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran, Roxas, San Vicente, Puerto Princesa City) including Kalayaan Islands is under Signal No. 3, where destructive typhoon-force winds are now prevailing or expected within 18 hours.
The government’s weather service also hoisted Signal No. 2 in the central portion of Palawan (Narra, Sofronio Española, Quezon, Aborlan, Rizal, Brooke’s Point) including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, bringing damaging gale to storm force winds are now prevailing or expected within 24 hours.
The rest of Palawan is under Signal No 1, where strong winds are now prevailing or expected to occur within 36 hours.
All storm signals in previous areas have been lifted, according to Pagasa.
