Camarines Norte town declares state of calamity due to ‘Odette’
LEGAZPI CITY––The Jose Panganiban town government in Camarines Norte declared a state of calamity Friday morning to assist the families affected by Typhoon “Odette” (international name: Rai).
Mayor Ariel Non said the typhoon isolated at least 800 families in the three island villages of Dahican, Dayhagan, and Salvacion.
“Most of them are fishermen whose livelihood are affected for almost three weeks because of big waves” caused by inclement weather even before “Odette” slammed into the country Thursday, Non said.
He said the town has around P300,000 quick-response funds to provide the residents with necessities, such as rice and other food items.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its 2 p.m. bulletin, said Odette maintained its strength with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) and a gustiness of 215 kph.
Moving westward at 25 kph, the center of the typhoon was last located 130 km southwest of Cuyo, Palawan, or 155 km east northeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
