556,500 doses of Pfizer jab bought by gov't arrive

MANILA, Philippines — More than half a million doses of the Pfizer-developed vaccine against COVID-19  that were procured by the government arrived in the country on Thursday night.

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 said the 556,500 Pfizer vaccine doses were bought by the government through the Asian Development Bank.

The plane carrying the anti-COVID shots landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 around 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Philippines received 1,187,550 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine which the government also paid for.

The country now received a total of 178,004,070 doses of various anti-COVID vaccines, including this latest shipment of Pfizer jab. Deliveries of donated and procured vaccines against the new coronavirus to the country started in February.

Based on the Department of Health’s data, some 42.5 million individuals in the country are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of December 15.
