MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) may issue its recommendation on the shortened interval before the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine booster by year-end of early part of 2022.

Currently, booster shots against COVID-19 are administered after six months to individuals who received a two-dose vaccine and three months to those who received a single dose.

“While isinalang na ‘yan, aaralin ang mga ‘yan (That will be studied), hopefully by the end of the year or early next year, mayroon na tayong (we’ll have) recommendations from our experts,” DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said during Thursday’s Laging Handa briefing.

DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III earlier said that the government is considering the administration of booster shot three months after the second dose of the primary COVID-19 vaccine series.

Duque added that health experts are studying whether or not shortening the booster shot interval would further improve the level of protection against the coronavirus.
