LUCENA CITY – For the second straight day and the third time this month, health authorities in Quezon province recorded no new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, December 12.
The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), however, reported on Sunday afternoon that three COVID-19 patients in Lucena City died.
The City Health Office disclosed that the latest fatalities were from the villages of Ilayang Dupay, Ibabang Iyam and Kanlurang Mayao.
The COVID-19 death toll in Quezon now stands at 1,478. Lucena, the provincial capital, topped the list with 223 deaths.
On December 1 and 11, the IPHO also recorded zero new COVID-19 cases and fatalities.
The IPHO reported that one COVID-19 patient from Candelaria town has recovered.
From December 1 to 12, only 36 COVID-19 cases have been recorded.
In November, the IPHO recorded 211 new COVID-19 cases, much lower than 2,115 in October and 5,342 in September.
Active COVID-19 cases in the province has also dropped to 53 as of Sunday, from the highest single-day tally of 2,570 on September 21.
Out of 41 local government units, the IPHO reported that 27 towns no longer have any infected individuals as of December 12.
Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or died.
The latest data revealed that 14 localities still host active COVID-19 cases. Lucena topped the list with 22 active virus carriers, a huge drop from the highest single-day tally of 572 on October 13.
