MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-three highly urbanized cities have achieved herd immunity against COVID-19, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año reported.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s Talk to the People that aired Tuesday, Año said that herd immunity areas are those that have immunized 70 percent of its target population.

“Out of our highly urbanized cities, umaabot po ng 23 siyudad ang umabot na po ng 70 percent and up na fully vaccinated,” he said.

(Out of our highly urbanized cities, 23 cities fully inoculated 70 percent or more of its target population.)

“So, ibig sabihin po almost sa target population ay nakamit na ang herd immunity sa target population,” the chief added.

(It means, they have achieved herd immunity among their target population.)

As of December 6, a total of 38,699,023 individuals across the country are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the Department of Health data shows.

According to Año the government is targeting to increase second dose injection during the second national vaccination program, set from December 15 to 17, to ramp up fully vaccinated individuals.
