Biliran detainee escapes jail; manhunt launched

TACLOBAN CITY – A detainee of the provincial jail in Biliran is being hunted down after he escaped from the facility on Monday.

The escapee, Carmelito Abia, a resident of Kawayan town, also in Biliran and charged for rape, managed to escape by climbing the wall at the back of the facility at around 12:30 midnight, stated reports from the regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police based in Palo town, Leyte.

Manhunt operations are now being conducted by the Naval police and personnel of the Bureau of Jail and provincial jail guards to arrest the suspect and detain him back at the facility located in Barangay Calumpang, Naval town.
