MANILA, Philippines — To prevent the possibility of causing superspreader events, the Department of Health on Monday appealed to political aspirants in the 2022 elections to refrain from holding political activities such as rallies that may lead to overcrowding.
“Nananawagan kami ulit sa ating mga opisyales, sa atin pong mga kumakandidato para sa darating na eleksyon, sana po, ‘wag ho tayo mag-hold ng gatherings, mga events na alam natin will cause overcrowding and this might cause infections in the coming days or weeks,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a media forum.
(We appeal again to our officials and aspirants in the upcoming elections, we hope you will not hold gatherings and events that will cause overcrowding and this might cause infections in the coming days or weeks.)
“Parating po ang pasko ngayon so sana po mapanatili nating mababa ang ating mga kaso para magkaroon po tayo ng masayang pasko para sa buong Pilipinas,” she added.

The Commission on Elections has noted the crowding of supporters during poll bets’ political rallies and activities.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government, meanwhile, reminded political aspirants and supporters to refrain from holding political rallies as it is not campaign period yet.
