ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Philippines — Cagayan de Oro City, the regional capital of Northern Mindanao, registered no new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Dec. 3, according to a Dec. 4 advisory from the COVID-19 Operations Center of the City Health Office.

FEATURED STORIES

The count of infections in the city has only been in single digits for a month now — except on Nov. 7 with 10, Nov. 9 with 18, and Nov. 17 with 14.

In the past month, only one death due to COVID-19 was recorded on each of the following days — Nov. 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, and 23.

These figures are marked improvements from the surge recorded from June to September during which more people also lined up for vaccination. By October, there was a radical reduction in the city’s rate of infection which continued until Saturday.

Health authorities attributed this trend to the massive vaccination of locals.

As of Dec. 1,  a total of 826,633 persons have been vaccinated — of whom 314,519 were fully vaccinated and 511,411 had their first dose. The city’s herd immunity target is 518,518.
