Cagayan de Oro records zero COVID-19 infection on Dec. 3

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Philippines — Cagayan de Oro City, the regional capital of Northern Mindanao, registered no new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Dec. 3, according to a Dec. 4 advisory from the COVID-19 Operations Center of the City Health Office.

The advisory also said that active cases stood at 141 of whom 27 were admitted in the hospitals and 114  were staying in temporary treatment and monitoring facilities.

Seven patients recovered from the disease on Friday while no deaths were recorded.

On Dec. 2, there was only one new infection recorded while there were two on Dec. 1.

The count of infections in the city has only been in single digits for a month now — except on Nov. 7 with 10, Nov. 9 with 18, and Nov. 17 with 14.

In the past month, only one death due to COVID-19 was recorded on each of the following days — Nov. 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, and 23.

These figures are marked improvements from the surge recorded from June to September during which more people also lined up for vaccination. By October, there was a radical reduction in the city’s rate of infection which continued until Saturday.

Health authorities attributed this trend to the massive vaccination of locals.

As of Dec. 1,  a total of 826,633 persons have been vaccinated — of whom 314,519 were fully vaccinated and 511,411 had their first dose. The city’s herd immunity target is 518,518.
