Old bridge collapses in La Carlota, Negros Occ.; 1 injured
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—A worker was injured when a steel bridge being demolished in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, collapsed at about 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3.
Jomer Savilla, 39, of Valenzuela, Metro Manila, sustained head and leg injuries.
The bridge, which connects barangays Nagasi and Cubay in La Carlota City, has not been used for about 20 years and was being demolished by a contractor of the Department of Public Works and Highways, said Mayor Rex Jalando-on.
“The old bridge was being demolished so it would not pose a danger,” he said. /ra
