Active COVID-19 cases in PH down to 14,977 as new infections hit 544 only

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 infections across the country are down to 14,977 as of Friday due to a still low new infection count of 544, numbers from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

According to DOH, 734 more patients recovered from the disease, leading to a total recovery count of 2,769,914.  All in all, 2,833,878 confirmed cases had been recorded in the country since the pandemic reached Philippine shores.

Of all the 14,977 cases, DOH said that 688 are asymptomatic, 7,166 have mild infections, 3,801 are moderate cases, 2,433 are severe cases, and 889 are critical cases.

In terms of intensive care unit bed occupancy in Metro Manila, only 28 percent have been utilized, while 22 percent of isolation beds are being used.  Nationwide, 27 percent of ICU beds are being used, while 25 percent of isolation beds are occupied.

Currently, the positivity rate in the country is at 1.8 percent out of the 32,908 tests done from December 1 (Wednesday).

According to DOH, two laboratories were not operational on November 30, while three others were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

Based on the data for the past 14 days, these laboratories contributed around 1.0 percent of all the samples tested, and 1.1 percent of the samples that came out positive.

DOH said it removed 17 duplicate entries from the total case count, of which 13 are recoveries.  There are also 122 cases that have tested negative and were removed from the total case count, while 218 cases tagged as recoveries before were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
