22 localities in Quezon province now COVID-19 free

LUCENA CITY––The number of active COVID-19 cases in Quezon province continued to drop, with 21 towns and one city out of 41 local governments no longer having any infected individuals as of Thursday, Dec. 2, health authorities reported.
The areas considered COVID-19-free are the six island towns of Alabat, Quezon, Jomalig, Patnanungan, Burdeos, and Polillo, according to the 5 p.m. Dec. 2 bulletin of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).
The IPHO also reported that Tayabas and the towns of San Andres, San Francisco, Buenavista, Pitogo, Macalelon, Catanauan, Mulanay, Agdangan, General Nakar, Gumaca, Atimonan, Plaridel, Tagkawayan, Sampaloc and Infanta have no more recorded COVID-19 cases.
Quezon has one independent city, Lucena; a component city, Tayabas; and 39 municipalities.
Those previously infected in the COVID-19-free LGUs have either recovered or died, the report showed.
The latest data revealed that of 19 localities still hosting active COVID-19 cases, eight towns (Unisan, Real, Perez, Panukulan, Lopez, General Luna, Dolores and Calauag) have only one remaining infection each; six localities have two each (Tiaong, San Narciso, Padre Burgos, Mauban, Lucban and Candelaria); two towns have three each (Sariaya and San Antonio); Pagbilao – 5; and Guinayangan – 6.
Lucena City, Quezon’s capital, topped the list with 45 active virus carriers, a huge drop from the 571 recorded on Oct. 14.
The IPHO has been recording a continuous sharp drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the province that is under Alert Level 2 until Dec. 15.
In November, the IPHO recorded 211 new COVID-19 cases, much lower than 2,115 in October and 5,342 in September.
The COVID-19 fatalities in the province rose to 1,463 since the pandemic was declared in March last year with the recent death of a patient in Gumaca town.
Gov. Danilo Suarez urged residents not to be complacent and continue practicing basic health protocols, like wearing face masks and keeping a one-meter distance from the next person in public places. INQ
