MANILA, Philippines — A transmission tower in Lanao del Sur was bombed on Thursday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

According to the NGCP, Tower No. 65 of the Agus 2-Kibawe 138kV located in the municipality of Maguing, Lanao del Sur, was the latest to be attacked.

“Repair of tower 65 will commence as soon as the area is secured,” it said in an advisory on Thursday.

“This transmission line segment has been unenergized since September 2021 due to sabotage of its insulators by still unknown individuals,” it added.

The NGCP said the bombing of the tower increases the public’s burden as it causes service interruptions.

The NGCP then appealed for help to identify the perpetrators.

“NGCP continues its appeal to the local and national government, local community leaders, and the public, to help identify the perpetrators of the bombings, and to negotiate with uncooperative landowners, to prevent longer power interruptions,” it said.

Transmission towers are constantly under threat from bombers in Mindanao, causing widespread power outages in the region, according to the NGCP.

The last bombing incident occurred in October 3, 2017, said NGCP.

According to NGCP, there have been three bombing incidents in 2017 bombing incidents and eight total bombings in 2016.
