/ 09:38 PM February 26, 2012

Pedro Paterno was born on Feb. 27, 1858, in Sta. Cruz, Manila. After graduating from Ateneo Municipal de Manila, he pursued his studies in Spain where he mingled with Filipino propagandists. In 1897, he served as a mediator between Filipino revolutionaries led by Emilio Aguinaldo and the Spanish government. This resulted in the Pact of Biak na Bato. Paterno was elected president of the Malolos Congress after Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippine independence in 1898. He died in Manila on March 11, 1911.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
