Bongbong Marcos to face another disqualification case
MANILA, Philippines — A group of petitioners is set to file on Thursday another disqualification case against the presidential bid of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
An advisory from the Akbayan Party-list stated that the disqualification case to be filed before the Commission on Elections will assert that Marcos is “perpetually barred from seeking public office as a result of his 1995 tax evasion conviction.”
Signatories to the petition are Akbayan First Nominee Perci Cendaña, former Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Etta Rosales, lawyer Byron Bocar of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reforms, Akbayan Youth Chairperson Dr. RJ Naguit, Tition Lao-Manalo and Doris Nuval of Claimants 1081, Jean Enriquez of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW-Asia Pacific) and Nice Coronacion of the Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO).
A multi-sectoral protest action will also be conducted along with the filing of the disqualification case, according to Akbayan.
Marcos Jr., son, and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos is currently facing four cases before the Comelec against his presidential bid.
