LPA spotted off Visayas develops into tropical depression — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Tuesday.

The state weather bureau said the tropical depression was located 1,590 kilometers east of Visayas with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph as of 3 a.m.

It is moving northwest at 15 kph and is seen to enter PAR on Wednesday.

The tropical depression is also seen to further intensify into a tropical storm within the day and once it enters PAR, it will be named “Odette,” said Pagasa.

The state weather bureau said if the storm maintains its direction, it will not have a direct impact to the country in the next three to five days.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said Batanes and Cagayan will experience a cloudy weather with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms on Tuesday.

The rest of Luzon will experience a fair weather, with chances of rainfall due to thunderstorms, said Pagasa.

Pagasa reported that Visayas and Mindanao regions will also experience fair weather with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

Gale warning is raised over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Aurora.
