2 dead in Quezon road mishaps

LUCENA CITY – A motorcyclist and a pedestrian died in separate road accidents in Tagkawayan town in Quezon province on Friday, police said Saturday.

Tagkawayan police reported that while Cenon Panaligan, 52, was crossing the Quirino Highway in Barangay Poblacion at around 11:20 p.m., he was accidentally side swept by a Bicol-bound van driven by Nicolas Oredo Jr.

The victim died while being taken to Maria Lourdes Eleazar General Hospital in the town proper.

Earlier, motorcycle rider, Felipe Zara, 63, while traversing the national highway, was hit by a rolling spare tire that was accidentally released from its lock on a truck coming from the opposite direction in Barangay Bagong Silang around 1:20 p.m.

The victim died on the spot.

Both drivers involved in the accidents were under the custody of the police station.
