Pagasa: Expect rainy Saturday in parts of Luzon, Zamboanga

MANILA, Philippines— Parts of Luzon and the Zamboanga Peninsula may experience rains this Saturday, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Ngayong araw, asahan ng maulang panahon sa malaking bahagi ng Northern and Central Luzon and we’re talking of Cagayan Valley, mga lalawigan ng Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, gayun din sa Aurora and even sa Quezon province- epekto ito ng shearline or tail end of frontal system,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja.

(Parts of Northern and Central Luzon, including Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora and even Quezon province are likely to experience rains today. This is due to the shearline or tail end of the frontal system.”)

“Asahan po ngayong araw, may mga light to moderate wind at times, heavy rains silang mararanasan doon, posible pa rin itong magdulot ng mga pagbaha or landslides,” he added.

(Expect light to moderate winds at times, and heavy rains in these areas which can possibly cause floods and landslides.)

The same weather condition is expected to prevail over Palawan and the Zamboanga Peninsula due to the presence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

Meanwhile, the Ilocos region, and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative region and Central Luzon are likely to see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains caused by the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may likewise experience the same conditions due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms, according to Pagasa.

Estareja added that a gale warning has been raised over Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, where moderate to rough sea conditions expected.
