PH gets 1 million more Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses

MANILA, Philippines — Around one million doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine were delivered to the Philippines on Thursday evening.

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 (NTF COVID-19) said that the LD456 flight, carrying 1,017,900 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 around 8 p.m.

With the recent arrival of vaccines, the number of doses the country has received now stands at 139 million.

The second batch of shipment, containing 201,240 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, will likewise be delivered on Friday.

The COVID-19 vaccines are procured by the national government through the Asian Development Bank.

On Thursday afternoon, over three million AstraZeneca vaccine doses, donated by the government of the United Kingdom, were delivered to the country.

Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor, NTF COVID-19 head of strategic communications on current operations, urged Filipinos anew to get vaccinated against the coronavirus and to participate in the three-day national vaccination drive which aims to administer 15 million anti-COVID-19 shots.

“Kami po muli ay nananawagan sa ating mga kababayan na magpabakuna na po at tangkilikin po natin lalo ngayon ‘yung parating na national vaccination day sa November 29, 30, and [December] 1,” he said.
