MANILA, Philippines — The shear line or tail-end of a frontal system and the intertropical convergence zone or ITCZ are expected to bring rain and thunderstorms in several areas of the country in the next 24 hours, the weather bureau said Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the shear line will affect the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon while the ITCZ will affect Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Pagasa said the weather systems will also affect Mindanao, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Palawan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon, causing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
These areas may also experience flash floods or landslides during moderate to, at times, heavy rains, according to the state weather service.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said overcast skies and rain may prevail over Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the northeast monsoon, which Filipino term is “amihan.”
It also warned flash floods and landslides may occur in these areas.
As for Metro Manila and the rest of Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Visayas, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms may dominate either due to ITCZ or localized thunderstorms. Pagasa said floods and landslides are likewise possible in these regions.
Further, Pagasa said the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
Meanwhile, winds over Northern and Central Luzon, as well as Visayas and the rest of Luzon, are seen to be moderate to strong, coupled with moderate to rough coastal waters.
Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters, Pagasa said.
