MANILA, Philippines — People who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, particularly those who refuse to do so, should be barred from restaurants and resorts, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday in his taped weekly address.
“Everyone should really get vaccinated. Those who refuse, they should not be allowed inside public restaurants or resorts because they are a threat to public health and the safety of the general public,” he said, speaking in a mix of Filipino and English.
“Our countrymen should understand this. Everyone needs to be vaccinated,” he added.
Duterte said he would support restaurants refusing to serve unvaccinated people.
“I support restaurants and all places where there is a risk of contamination of the public. You have my support. Don’t let them eat,” he said.
He said this as he reminded the public to continue practicing health protocols, especially now that the country had recorded a dip in COVID-19 cases.
So far, over 33.8 million Filipinos have completed the necessary doses of COVID-19, making them fully vaccinated against the deadly respiratory illness, while 42.6 million have received at least their first dose.
