MANILA, Philippines — Former Senator JV Ejercito has lamented how some netizens “made fun” of his recent accident along Roxas Boulevard, expressing disappointment at how some people have “gone low” on social media.
Ejercito, who is seeking a Senate comeback in the 2022 elections, posted on Facebook on Monday a slight accident he had while cycling.
“I hit a small pothole while doing a solo ride and sprinting along the stretch of Roxas Boulevard. I lost control as my front wheel wobbled, then fell hard on my bike,” he said in his post accompanied with photos of his injuries.
A Facebook page of a media company then shared photos of Ejercito’s injuries. This post by a media site was later shared by another Facebook page called “Overseas Filipino Workers – OFW,” which questioned why Ejercito had to post about his accident on social media.
“Yung wagas na kaengotan kailangan pang ipost JV Ejercito Estrada, ano yan paawa effect? iboto niyo daw na SenaTHIEVE,” read the post of the page for OFWs.
(Why did you have to post about your stupidity on social media? Are you asking for sympathy? Maybe he was asking people to vote for him as a SenaTHIEVE.”
Some netizens were also harsh in commenting on the said post.
“Paawa epek sa katangahan nya magbike sa open road (He was asking for pity for his stupidity in biking on an open road),” one of the commenters said.
“Buti nga sayo (That suits you),” another netizen said.
“Masamang damo mga ejercito. Relax lang kayo (Bad guys don’t easily die. Just relax),” a commenter added.
In a later post on Monday evening, Ejercito then shared screenshots of the said post and the comments made by some netizens.
“Have some people gone this low in socmed? Some even making fun of my accident and injuries in a page of a major daily,” said Ejercito.
“What is happening to some Pinoys? We are not like this. Supposedly we are one of the friendliest people in the world. Sa halip na magpagalingan sa talino, tila sa iba pagalingan sa pabastusan ang gusto (It seems we want to compete for who is more rude),” he added.
As of posting time, Ejercito’s post on Facebook lamenting the online comments against him has so far garnered 3,500 reactions.
