BOC: New x-ray machine at NAIA warehouse to enhance security, trade facilitation

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and public customs bonded warehouse People’s Air Cargo (Paircargo) have unveiled a new x-ray scanner which will be used in efforts to enhance border security and facilitate trade.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, BOC said this is Paircargo’s second x-ray machine. The new machine is designed by U.S-based security scanner manufacturer Astrophysics Inc.

The scanner has a six-color imaging system which allows it to scan the composition of materials. It can also inspect parcels for possible concealment.

BOC-NAIA District Collector Carmelita Talusan said that the “strong partnership” between BOC and Paircargo has resulted in better services for importers and brokers.

This year, the Port of NAIA, with the help of service providers and warehouses, has confiscated smuggled items totalling P157.07 million.

Since 2018, Paircargo has intercepted an estimated P95.42 million worth of unregistered medicines, unregistered beauty products and smuggled luxury items.
