MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Senator Bong Go on Wednesday said he supports the vice-presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Go made the statement after Duterte-Carpio claimed that the ruling PDP-Laban party, to which the senator belongs, had refused to support her tandem with former dictator’s son Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the 2022 elections.
Go said he will let PDP-Laban clarify the issue “in due time,” but said he supports Duterte-Carpio’s vice presidential bid.
“Alam ko naman po na wala kaming tinatanggihan. Being the administration party, we have always exerted efforts to reach out to those who are supportive of President Rodrigo Duterte,” he said in a statement.
(I know that PDP-Laban did not reject anyone.)
“With regard to Mayor Sara, we always wish her well. As I have said earlier, kung ako lang ang tatanungin, siya ang aking sinusuportahan sa pagka-Bise Presidente,” he added.
(If I am to be asked, she is still the vice-presidential candidate I support.)
Duterte-Carpio earlier revealed that she sought the support of political parties for her and Marcos Jr.’s run in next year’s elections.
Marcos Jr. also confirmed his tandem with Duterte-Carpio in the 2022 national elections.
Go, who is running for president under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) party which is allied with the ruling party PDP-Laban, is still left without a running mate.
According to Diwa Rep. Michael Edgar Aglipay, President Rodrigo Duterte endorsed to some members of the House of Representatives the tandem of Go and Duterte-Carpio for the 2022 elections.
