MANILA, Philippines — Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. executives and siblings Mohit and Twinkle Dargani on Monday underwent medical check-up in the Senate’s detention facility after they were arrested Sunday when they were about to leave the country for Malaysia.

In photos shared by the Senate’s Public Relations and Information Bureau (PRIB), officers of the chamber’s Medical and Dental Bureau (MDB) can be seen inside Mohit and Twinkle’s room to check on their health condition.

MDB Director Dr. Cristeta Cocjin explained to the Dargani siblings that they need to get their vital signs, medical history, and physical examination to “ensure their health and well-being while they are in the Senate’s custody.”

The siblings were arrested at the Davao City Airport as they were about to flee to Malaysia, according to Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Rene Samonte.

The Senate ordered the arrest of the Dargani siblings after they were cited in contempt for their “refusal” to submit documents earlier subpoenaed by the blue ribbon committee.

Pharmally is at the center of the Senate blue ribbon committee’s investigation into the Department of Health’s transfer of P42 billion to the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) for the procurement of medical supplies at the height of the pandemic.

Over P8.6 billion of this went to the contracts awarded to Pharmally in 2020. Senators doubted the financial capacity of the firm since it was only established in 2019 with a small capital of P625,000 when it secured the supply deals.
