CEBU HISTORY BOOK LAUNCHING

A BOOK on the history of Cebu province, its towns and cities will be launched on the 443rd anniversary of the province this August.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia met with the Cebu history book project committee, mayors and other representatives to settle the deadline for the project.

Garcia said the project “has taken quite a number of years” due to some technical delays from the writers, editors and the late responses for comments on the draft from the local government units.

“We are looking at August for the official launching of this very, very ambitious, never-been-done-before groundbreaking project that will make each and every Cebuano truly, truly, proud to be a Cebuano,” Garcia said.

In their meeting last Wednesday, 14 towns were given one week to finalize their manuscripts.

Book covers for the towns will bear a signature image of the town and the official seals of the province and the municipality or city.

The committee plans to register the 55 volumes with the National Library and the appropriate body giving international recognition for books through the issuance of international standard book numbers (ISBN).

Electronic copies will also be produced.

The idea of creating a history book for Cebu originally came from former governor and now Deputy House Speaker Pablo Garcia.
Governor Gwen agreed to pursue the project in 2008.
The definitive history of Cebu will have 55 volumes representing the 44 towns, seven component cities, three highly urbanized cities, the histories of the provincial Capitol and the whole province. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus

OFFICIAL PLEADS INNOCENCE ON GARBAGE CASE

A BARANGAY official of Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City, pleaded not guilty to charges of violating Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 in court yesterday.

Barangay captain Allen Dimataga entered his plea during his arraignment before Judge Allan Francisco Garciano at the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) in Lapu-Lapu City.

He posted a P12,000 bail last Feb. 10. Dimataga supposedly ignored the citation tickets issued to Poblacion by city environment officers who found unsegregated garbage along Mantawi Road in their area.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza told reporters that even if Dimataga is a known political ally, he will have to face the charges against him. Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza

93-1 DEAL

CAPITOL officials will meet with a homeowners association and a representative of Vice President Jejomar Binay to finalize details of a payment scheme for their occupancy of lots owned by the province.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said she wants to meet with Skyview Homeowner’s Association and Chito Borromeo, the vice president’s consultant for housing before the signing of the agreement for the payment scheme.

Last Monday, the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) authorized the governor to enter into an agreement with the association.
The PB also agreed to give the homeowners association six months to pay purchase price.

The MOA pegged the cost of lots 3 and 4 in barangay Busay at P3,300 per square meter.
