Mindanao business leader says Sara Duterte’s VP run a ‘good move’

Davao City mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday joined the Lakas-CMD party just hours after leaving her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), further fueling speculations on her possible run for a national post.

DAVAO CITY – Although some local leaders pushing Mayor Sara Duterte to run for president have made themselves scarce amid her move to run for vice president instead, a Mindanao business leader has welcomed it.

Vicente T. Lao, chair of the Mindanao Business Council, called as “good move” the action of Mayor Duterte to seek the vice presidential position as the candidate of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, replacing Lyle Uy.

“She is still young. It will be a good training ground for her for the next step,” said Lao in a text message two hours after the mayor, through legal counsel Charo Munsayac, filed her candidacy for the position.
