Tomas Osmeña drops out of race for congressman
CEBU CITY—Former Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña has withdrawn his congressional bid on Friday (Nov. 12).
According to Omar Mamalinta, assistant election officer of Cebu City’s north district, Osmeña submitted a statement of withdrawal at the Commission on Elections past 11 a.m.
Osmeña will be replaced by BG Rodrigo Abellanosa, son of outgoing Rep. Rodrigo “Bebot” Abellanosa.
The younger Abellanosa will face Cebu City Councilor Edu Rama in the race for congressman in Cebu City’s south district.
Osmeña has yet to reveal the reason he withdrew his candidacy. His wife Margot is running for mayor.
