Duterte names Manila chief prosecutor Bulay to poll body
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has nominated Manila Chief City Prosecutor Rey Bulay to the Commission on Elections, Malacañang announced on Thursday.
As Comelec commissioner, Bulay will fill the last position in the seven-seat poll body that has remained vacant after an earlier nominee, Michael Peloton, failed to secure the approval of the Commission on Appointments.
A San Beda College alumnus like Duterte, Bulay earlier served as commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government and was elected Muntinlupa City councilor.
His term with the Comelec will expire on Feb. 2, 2027, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
“We are confident that Attorney Bulay will ensure the conduct of honest, peaceful, orderly, credible, and peaceful elections,” Roque said in a statement. —Leila B. Salaverria
