Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas ‘very low risk’ for COVID -19, says OCTA Research

MANILA, Philippines — The cities of Navotas, Caloocan, and Malabon are now under very low risk for COVID-19 while the other local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila are classified as low risk, based on the metrics of OCTA Research.

“Fourteen of the LGUs are classified as low risk but three are classified as very low risk. If you look at Navotas, it has a 0.37 ADAR (average daily attack rate) and they are just averaging one case per day over the past week,” OCTA Research fellow Guido David said in an online media forum on Thursday.

ADAR is the average number of persons who contract COVID-19 among 100,000 individuals per day.

OCTA Research uses the indicators of covidactnow.org in classifying the risk levels in specific areas, which does not reflect the risk level ratings being used by the Department of Health.

Meanwhile, OCTA’s data showed that Caloocan City registered an average of 22 new daily cases, while Malabon logged an average of six cases in the past week.

Metro Manila logged an average of 365 new daily COVID cases from November 2 to 8, according to David. The reproduction number, or the average number of people being infected by one case, is at 0.37, while the ADAR is 2.58 per 100,000.

OCTA’s data also showed that healthcare utilization rate (HCUR) in the capital region was at 27 percent while intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy was at 37 percent.

The positivity rate, or the percentage of positive tests among the total tests conducted, was at three percent, which is well within the five-percent benchmark of the World Health Organization.
