Trillanes ‘ambivalent’ on Marcos DQ case: I want people like him defeated in the elections
MANILA, Philippines — “I want people like Bongbong Marcos to be defeated in the elections.”
So said former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who feels “ambivalent” about the disqualification complaint lodged against presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“I’m ambivalent about it, to be honest. Because personally, I want people like Bongbong Marcos to be defeated in the elections because we want to show the world that we have already rejected the Marcos name back in 1986 and we would reject it again in 2022,” Trillanes, who is seeking a Senate comeback, said in an INQside Look interview when asked about the disqualification complaint against Marcos.
“So that’s how democracy should work. We should let the people decide,” he added.
A petition was earlier filed before the Commission on Elections, asking the poll body to cancel Marcos’ certificate of candidacy (COC) for president over his conviction in a tax case more than two decades ago.

The camp of Marcos has already labeled the complaint against him as mere “propaganda” by “yellow wannabe political assassins.”

Marcos’ camp also insisted that there is no longer a need to declare his tax conviction in his COC since he was only asked to pay a fine.
